SF Xochipilli VIDEO |
Xochipilli is an Azteca D: he is 1/2 Andalusian and 1/2 Paint. He is very flashy with expressive movement and stunning presence. Xochipilli shows tremendous athleticism, with elasticity for dressage, power for jumpers, and balance and quickness for reining, cow work, and Doma Vaquera. He has tremendous bone and is structurally very correct.
Xochipilli ("Soh-chee-pee-lee") is the name of the Aztec God of flowers, pleasure, feasting, frivolity, and artistic creativity. What fun! He is triple registered: with the International Andalusian and Lusitano Horse Association , the American Azteca Horse International Association, and the Pinto Horse Association of America .
Xochipilli is naturally balanced in his movement and has tremendous ability to engage his hindquarters and elevate his forehand, especially at the canter. While his physique resembles a well built Paint, he has a very Iberian way of moving: uphill with elasticity and suspension, freedom in the shoulder, and the best canter I have seen in a young horse.
Xochipilli's temperament is willing and confident, and he likes to show off. He is highly intelligent and very motivated to learn and perform, so we have embarked on a trick-training regimen as an adjunct to his regular training under saddle, in order to keep his mind busy! He earned his barn name, "Spot", due to his rather Fido-like behaviors: Fetching his ball, playing tug with ropes, and carrying his "leash" in his mouth when being led or longed.
Xochipilli has been started under saddle and is advancing very quickly.

Xochipilli is just loads of fun, every way you look at him!
Ultimately Xochipilli's greatest value will be at stud. He will be invaluable as an Azteca sire, as he has a lot to offer the breed: Flawless conformation, substance, breathtaking movement, a willing, trainable mind, and awesome good looks!
The national horse of Mexico, the Azteca is created by blending Andalusian with foundation Quarterhorse or Paint. The result is a re-creation of the elegant and powerful horses brought to the New World by the Spanish explorers more than half a century ago. The Azteca possesses tremendous athletic ability, beauty, and superb temperament, plus that exciting Iberian element known as "brio". As an Azteca D (50:50), Xochipilli can sire an Azteca C (x AQHA or APHA), an Azteca B (x Andalusian), or an Azteca A ( x Azteca B or C).
Xochipilli is sired by the PRE Andalusian stallion Jalisco X, six-times champion in Spain. He is in the Spanish Book of Merit with championships in both halter and performance divisions. He competed successfully in open dressage after his importation to the U.S.
Xochipilli's dam is a registered Paint.
