Serpentine Farm horses
are
a great investment in the future.
The purchase of a horse is serious business: You search long and hard for the "right one", probably pay more than you had initially budgeted, and then bring your new partner home with plans and dreams of a great future together. And then you begin to find out about the little holes (or tremendous gaps ) in that horse's training and responsivness to handling. This is more common with young horses, but does happen with mature, supposedly well-trained horse.
When you purchase a horse bred and raised by Serpentine Farm, you are getting more than "just a horse". Your new partner was carefully managed, from before it was conceived, to have the best genetic, physical, mental, and emotional potential to be a success throughout its life. Every aspect of its physical and emotional development has been carefully and thoughfully orchestrated from the moment it was born, so that it will have a positive attitude toward people, its environment, and its career.

Why should you buy a horse from a breeding farm (like Serpentine Farm)?
1. Breeding farms produce horses with the intention of marketing and selling them. Therefore, they are created, raised, and trained with careful consideration of their future usefulness and value. They are not being sold due to some issue that their current owner no longer wants to deal with. Serpenitne Farm horses are created specifically for the amateur dressage, hunter/jumper, and pleasure rider.
2. They are "one-owner" horses with known histories.
3. At a breeding farm, you will most likely be able to see the dam and siblings, and possibly the sire, too.
4. Breeding farms usually have an "inventory" of horses for sale and you are more likley to find the one that suits you without driving all over the region seeing horses one at a time. Tell us what you are looking for and we will find a good match for you!
5. A breeding farm is a business that relies on a good reputation to stay in business, so you are much more likely to be treated curteously and fairly than by some private sellers. This is the Serpenitne Farm mantra - honesty always!
6. Breeding farms are more likley to have finance plans available, and be able to provide after-market assitance with your new horse. At Serpentine Farm we offer unlimited free technical support! We can also help with training.
Why does it make sense to purchase a young horse, or even a foal from Serpentine Farm?
1. Save money: a youngster costs less to buy than a trained horse because less has been invested in it, so far. And there is a strong economic advantage to purchasing a foal or yearling as opposed to breeding one of your own - plus all the uncertainties have been eliminated.
2. You can raise and train the horse your way, and develop a strong bond with it before you ever climb aboard.
3. By buying a horse that has older full or part siblings, so you can get a pretty good idea of what your baby will grow to become. Many of our babies have older siblings, some which are already under saddle and showing.
4. All of Serpentine Farm's babies are raised in herds on hilly pasture. They are very well developed physically, emotionally, and socially. They are handled regularly and we try to get all the babies to at least one show by the time they are yearlings, just for the experience. They have had appropriate health and foot care from the start and are on a vaccination and worming program overseen by our veterinarians. They are on a carefully balanced state-of-the-art nutritional program that promotes sensible growth and minimizes growth-related orthopedic stresses. All management is directed at producing well developed, happy young horses primed and ready to take on their respective careers and become lifelong partners.
